Floyd County Virginia High School Art

Floyd is about creativity; especially expressed in music and art, but also creative problem solving. Even though countless studies have shown that students that participate in the arts have fewer behavior problems and do better academically, art departments budgets are usually the first to get cut. So what to do when the high school art program is struggling with yet another budget cut? Musician and artist, Jenny Traynham posed the question to the Floyd Artists Association and they rose to the challenge.

During the summer months, the members of the Floyd Artists Association located in The Station across from the Floyd Country Store, will be working to raise funds for art supplies for the Floyd County High School. Since the mission of the Floyd Artists Association is to support and promote artists of Floyd County and contribute to the creative arts culture of Floyd, the co-op of artists will be helping in a variety of ways.

A contribution Coin Can will be put on the desk in the Floyd Artists Association, so that the community and visitors can support the arts in the high school. Each artist from the FAA will be contributing a portion of their sales. And each first Friday of June, July & August, FAA will be accepting donations of art supplies to go to the high school art department, so artists around Floyd can help by contributing art supplies they no longer use. A poster in the gallery will show how the Floyd Artists Association is doing on meeting their goal of one thousand dollars for the high school art department. Stop by on the first Friday of each month to drop off art supply donations for the high school students. The Floyd Artists Association is located at 203 South Locust Street in The Station. If you wish to mail a contribution, make it to FAA, P.O. Box 729, Floyd, VA 24091 and put High School Art Supplies in the comment of your check.
