Canoe and Kayak the Little River in Floyd Virginia

The 3rd annual Little River Run is set for Saturday June 16th.

It all started with a passion for canoeing and the desire to raise money for charities. The Little River is an underutilized resource in Floyd County and having a blue event only makes sense for canoe/kayak enthusiasts, local businesses and charitable organizations.During the past 3 years, the Little River Run has quietly gone on in Floyd County but this year we are planning a much bigger, more enjoyable event.

Daniel Sowers of On the Water in Floyd and Luis Garcia of FLOYD VIRGINIA Publication are the organizers of the Little River Run. Last year around 35 people floated the 5 mile course. Daniel operates a canoe outpost on Thunderstruck and has leased the end point property on Sowers Mill Dam. We are planning on having a couple of vendors at the exit point and encourage paddlers to enjoy the river and have fun.

Registration will be from 10am – 11am with a 15 minute mandatory safety briefing at 11am. Paddlers will use the buddy system to leave cars at the exit point right after the briefing. All paddlers will enter the water at 12 noon. The entire run should last around 3 hours depending on how many times you stop along the route. The entry fee is $10 per vessel. If you decide to fish have a proper Virginia license. All paddlers must have an approved life preserver and all garbage must be self contained and taken with you. No alcohol permitted during the event.

1st Annual Bluegrass & BBQ Festival – Floyd Virginia

This Saturday, May 28 will be the 1st Annual Chantilly Farm Bluegrass & BBQ Festival right here in Floyd County Virginia. The site location is just six miles North-East of the stop light in town. You take 221N and merge onto Franklin Pike (681) and drive up to the festival location (you can’t miss it). The location of the festival is on 101 pristine acres of rolling hills with natural amphitheater settings and BIG VIEWS. I have to give a special shout-out to the LCF Group, David & Gaynell Larsen and Dee Wallace for making this festival and location possible. Before this there really was no other site venue in Floyd County to host events this big. They also have plans for all sort of festivities all made possible by Chantilly Farm. It truly is a perfect venue for outdoor events.
