Healing Tree Wellness Center – “Where the Impossible is Possible”

Located in a two story home on Christiansburg Pike, 0.6 miles from the only traffic light in Floyd County is the Healing Tree Wellness Center and Herb House. This unassuming location has brought together a marriage of practitioners, family and friends dedicated to deliver services that relieve pain, relax, inform, strengthen and provide an experience of healing and overall wellness.

Get to Know Us

Ivan and Lynise Anderson, owners of Healing Tree Wellness Center, were students at Old Mill High School in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Upon graduation, Ivan travelled to Philadelphia, earned a B.B.A degree in Actuarial Science from Temple University, married and had 4 kids (Ivan Jr., 27, Jordan, 25, Kyle, 20 and Aliya, 15). Lynise received a B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University in Texas, married, had a daughter (Cierra Green, 14) and received an N.D. (Doctorate of Naturopathy) degree from Trinity College. Lynise resided in Annapolis, Maryland; Ivan remained in Philadelphia. The two did not see each other for nearly 23 years.  With so many years and miles between them, it was Lynise’s brother Albert (Al) and his bad back that brought the pair together. Al was a classmate of Ivan, and the two had stayed in touch over the years. Al was advised to get shiatsu therapy to help with his pain –  Ivan was a shiatsu therapist –  Lynise resided halfway between Al and Ivan’s home. It all came together. Ivan provided the shiatsu treatment and noticed, as he states, “the little girl had grown up”. After five years of a commuter relationship (from Philadelphia to Annapolis) and a summer vacation in Floyd, Ivan and Lynise with their daughter Cierra moved to Floyd, got married and opened the Healing Tree.

Lynise is a Holistic Nutritionist, Master Herbalist and Iridologist specializing in the use of food and supplements to achieve and support optimum health. Ivan says, “Lynise is the brains in this operation; I am the brawn”. Ivan is a shiatsu therapist and energy medicine practitioner, specializing in pain relief and health recovery. Lynise says about Ivan, “Just let him put his hands on you; you will feel the energy, the healing power!” Together, they make a formidable team. While they make it clear that they do not treat nor cure disease, they have both significantly helped clients with conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), headaches, back and neck pain, gout, anxiety, PMS, allergies and many other conditions.

They also see dis-ease as imbalances. They work at the root cause of the imbalance to alleviate the presenting symptoms. As one client states:
“It’s been four months since I first met with you and I can say that I never imagined how truly successful the treatment would be…- you have totally changed my life and my health. …Thanks to you both!”
Kelly C-P (Floyd, VA)

Both Andersons were fortunate to be mentored by doctors who, through clinical experience, helped them to see and know that the body can heal itself. “It (the body) just needs a little help sometimes”.

Prior to making Floyd their home three years ago, the Andersons ran a wellness center in Maryland. They had a vision to create a Center of Excellence that would be known for having the best of the best, offering integrative services by a collaboration of practitioners in order to achieve the greatest outcome for their clients. Consequently, the Healing Tree Wellness Center took root and began to grow.

Step Inside

Your Healing Tree experience begins as soon as you step on the porch and open the front door.  You are greeted by a feeling of healing and peace.  Says one client who did not have an appointment and was found sitting in the living room, “I was out running errands and figured I’d just stop by and soak in some love”. Other clients have echoed a similar sentiment: “It is so peaceful and calming”. “Just being here makes me feel better.”  The waiting room at the Healing Tree is more like a living room. “We want to create an inviting atmosphere.  Isn’t a living room where family and friend are supposed to gather?  Our clients are treated with care, like family is supposed to be treated.”

The Visit

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” This quote by Thomas Edison hangs prominently over the mantle in the waiting room and aptly sets the tone for what’s in store.  Once inside, you are greeted by calming music and a warm smile; your journey begins. You meet with your practitioner to discuss your concerns. “It’s funny”, says Lynise, “You’ll often hear clients say of their sessions with a practitioner ‘they actually took time to listen to me!” Ivan adds, “We model the old country doctor who takes the time to hear your concerns. We don’t treat dis-eases; we treat people.” Then, after a thorough discussion, you receive your session and a recommended plan of action to help you reach your health goals.

The Path to Wellness

There are a lot of things you will receive while at the Healing Tree– a home-like atmosphere, soothing music, attentive practitioners – but there’s one thing you can be certain you will not get: cookie cutter advice. “Every client that comes to us is unique. And what works for one may not work for another. So, we develop plans of action for each individual, based on what that individual needs.”  Individualized plans indeed!  An action plan may include any combination of holistic therapies such as shiatsu, dietary recommendations, herbal or nutritional supplements, stress management strategies or a vibrational hair analysis and personalized remedy.

It Works!

“What we do works”, says Ivan. The Center for Disease Control reports that more 83 million Americans (4 out of 10 people) have used some form of alternative medicine as part of their healthcare. If you suffer from headaches, pain, digestive concerns, feel tired, cannot sleep or just feel out of sorts, the Healing Tree is the place to visit. Says one local physician: Forgive me for being pushy, but: don’t think twice — make an appointment. Reducing your stress is not a luxury.  D. L., M.D. (Floyd, VA)

What about those of you who feel you are in great health?  As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” “Most people have gotten so used to feeling bad”, says Lynise, “they don’t know or remember what it’s like to feel good.” Through a series of sophisticated, noninvasive assessments “we can find subtle imbalances in the body, sometimes 5-10 years before they show up as ‘real’ problems.” One local practitioner has stated: “I refer people to you [The Healing Tree] that I cannot help because I hear that you won’t recommend treatments that are not needed.”   Lynise and Ivan get a chuckle when they think of the one client who checked out to be very healthy.  They asked, “Why are you here?”  He said, “My wife made me come”. They both smile.

Success Stories

Many of the Healing Tree clients come because of conditions they have endured for many years or they come to get a handle on their health before it gets out of control. Here is a snapshot of what their clients are saying:
“I feel strengthened both physically and emotionally. I’m finally pain free!” H.G., R.N. (Floyd, VA)

“My hot flashes went from one every couple of hours to less than one a week. I hardly notice them now. Thank you for the needed relief.” S.H.R. (Philadelphia, PA)

“Your work is amazing!  I have eliminated over 10 different medicines that I was taking.” L.W (Boones Mill, VA)

“Without trying, I have shed 20 some odd pounds…my chronic pain is less, and certainly my inflammatory syndrome is almost nil.” R.W. (Floyd, VA).

“Because so much of what we do involves dialoguing with the client or is energy based”, says Ivan, “we can treat people all over the country… all over the world! It’s both amazing and humbling at the same time.”
Wider Branches… Deeper Roots

While the ensemble of services Ivan and Lynise offer addresses many health concerns, they realized they can’t be all things to all people. “We don’t own the silver bullet”, admits Lynise.  And so, they expanded the service offering at the Healing Tree by adding a life coach, a Pilates practitioner, two massage therapists and a health coach to their team. “This team just fell into place nicely; the goal was set and achieved in less than a year’s time due to hard work, results and community support” says Ivan.

Other Services now offered at the Healing Tree Wellness Center and Herb House include: Sports and Swedish massage, cranial sacral therapy, reflexology, detoxification foot baths, ear candling, moxibustion, health classes and lectures, supermarket tours, cooking classes and demonstrations. The Center also features Nature’s Sunshine and Pure Herb herbal and nutritional supplements.

The Healing Tree features many services under one roof with all practitioners sharing a common goal— the health and wellness of its clients.

They are a family of individuals creating a healing community. Please visit, experience and share. “Help us help you make the impossible, truly possible”.

Healing Tree Wellness Center is located at 132 Christiansburg Pike, Floyd, VA 24091, phone number 540-745-3030. Please visit our website at or become friends with us on Facebook.  Our office is open Monday through Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-2pm, by appointment.

The following is a list of members of the Healing Tree team, along with some of the services that are offered:

Lynise Anderson, N.D.; Holistic Nutritionist; Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor, Master Herbalist, Wellness Educator; Author of the book, “Who? Me? Stressed?” Lynise employs a metabolic assessment tool to both identify and recommend a personalized diet plan used to help clients reach and maintain optimal health. The use of iridology, kinesiology (muscle testing) and nutritional supplements augment the effectiveness of her service.  Iridology is a unique way of identifying imbalances by looking into the iris of the eyes.  Markings in the eye corresponding to the numbered positions of a clock indicate imbalances to organs, nerves and body systems.  Anyone interested in improving their overall health or managing an acute or chronic health condition through natural means would benefit from Lynise’s expertise.

Ivan Anderson, Certified Shiatsu Therapist and Energy Medicine Practitioner. Through Shiatsu, Ivan balances the physical structure and the meridian (energy) system in the body.  Coupled with shiatsu, he performs vibrational hair analysis that allows a full spectrum view of the energetic body.  Through his work, Ivan has had tremendous success addressing clients with Fibromyalgia and other auto-immune disorders, headache, back, shoulder and leg pain, fibroids and other reproductive disorders, stress and emotional imbalances.

Heather Angel, Life Coach; M.A., LPC; B.A. in psychology from Connecticut College; Master of Arts in Counseling from Webster University. Heather has worked with individuals, couples, and families for over 20 years, seven of those years as a counselor in private practice. Embracing a more holistic approach to counseling, Heather is now a practicing Life Coach. Profoundly different from traditional counseling or therapy, the coaching process addresses specific personal projects, business successes, general conditions and transitions in the client’s personal life, relationships or profession. By examining what is going on right now and identifying what obstacles or challenges may exist, Heather helps her clients choose a course of action to take their lives from “where it is to where they want it to be”. As your coach, Heather brings her years of experience as a counselor and a personal philosophy that “each and every one of us can live and thrive in a life that is suited uniquely to us”.

Margaret Gray, Certified Holistic Health Coach (CHHC); B.S. Environmental Studies The heart of Margaret’s nutritional philosophy centers on whole foods that are prepared simply and locally derived whenever possible. With a wide variety of skills in health coaching, and nutrition education, Margaret works with clients on issues related to their health, nutrition, and lifestyle.  Through one-on-one counseling, she provides the guidance and support needed to make sustainable changes in her client’s diet, exercise routine, relationships, and daily practice. Margaret works with men and women who experience acid reflux, digestive issues, irritable bowel syndrome, yeast, and fatigue. Her clients experience less symptoms, more energy, and they learn how to work with their bodies to find a lifestyle and way of eating that supports optimum health.

Molly Brett, Certified Pilates Instructor, Yoga Instructor Molly is trained and certified in classical Pilates and has over 1000 hours of Pilates training. Her goal is to help the body come back into balance by assessing which muscles are too tight and which ones are too loose and by strengthening or stretching them appropriately.  In doing so, the body is reeducated by strengthening the core and smaller muscles that help support the joints.  Clients seeking a holistic form of exercise, or those needing recovery from an injury or those wanting personal training would benefit from Pilates sessions.

Lynn Mace, Licensed Massage Therapist, CMT Lynn offers bodywork sessions that include the use of Cranial Sacral therapy, direct and indirect myofascial work, and deep tissue massage. Cranial Sacral is a subtle touch modality that accesses and assists the movement of cerebrospinal fluid throughout the body. Myofascial work focuses on the body’s connective tissue, the scaffolding that holds everything together. It is slow and deep work that serves to stretch the connective tissues (fascia). Swedish massage is a relaxation style that uses lotion, long stokes and kneading. Combined, these three modalities provide the following benefits: enhanced immune response, deep restorative relaxation, improved digestion, pain relief, better focus, improved posture, increased energy and overall sense of well being.

Miriam Brancato, Certified Massage Therapist, B.I.S.,

Miriam has a degree in Integrative Wellness and Fitness and has been in the massage profession for over 20 years. She specializes in Sports Massage, Medical Massage, Therapeutic Touch, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Reflexology, Equine Massage, Infant massage and Trager principles. She is qualified to work with people who have medical conditions, who are undergoing physical rehab, athletes, persons with chronic and acute pain due to headaches, soft tissue injuries, excessive muscular tension, the elderly and children.
